Our Story
North York's Home for Authentic Indian Street Food
IndiaWaale Desi Street Food is a family-run Indian restaurant located inside Peanut Plaza at 3040 Don Mills Rd East, North York, Ontario. We serve freshly made Indian street food — the kind you'd find at a busy dhaba in Delhi, a chaat stall in Mumbai, or a biryani house in Hyderabad.
What Does "IndiaWaale" Mean?
Waale is a Hindi suffix meaning "the people of" or "those who deal in." So IndiaWaale simply means the people of India — those who carry the food, the culture and the warmth of the subcontinent to wherever they go.
When we opened in North York, the goal was straightforward: bring the real flavours of Indian street food to the South Asian diaspora and to anyone curious about what Indian food actually tastes like beyond butter chicken and naan. We wanted a place where a first-generation immigrant could eat something that tastes like home, and where someone trying Indian food for the first time could start with pani puri and end up ordering a full thali.
Peanut Plaza became our home because of its diverse, community-driven character. We've grown with North York — and North York has grown with us.
What We're Known For
A few things we make better than most — according to our regulars.
Chaat Corner
Our chaat is made fresh to order — pani puri (gol gappe), dahi puri, papri chaat, samosa chaat and bhel puri. Each plate is assembled at the counter with hand-ground chutneys and fresh yogurt, just like you'd find from a street cart in Delhi or Mumbai.
Kathi Rolls
Flaky parathas loaded with paneer tikka, butter chicken or spiced vegetables — rolled and toasted to order. Our rolls are one of the most popular items in North York and regularly sell out on weekend evenings.
Biryani
Slow-cooked basmati rice layered with aromatics and your choice of protein. We offer both Kolkata and Hyderabadi styles in veg, egg, chicken and mutton. Available as single servings or large catering trays for groups.
Tandoor Se
Our tandoor runs daily — paneer tikka, soya chaap tikka, chicken tikka, seekh kebab and mixed platters. The high-heat clay oven gives a char and smokiness that no stovetop can replicate.
Thalis
From the compact Mini Thali to the show-stopping Maharaja Thali, every thali is a complete Indian meal. Roti, sabzi, dal, rice, salad and dessert — all on one tray, at one honest price.
Sweets & Desserts
Fresh mithai made in-house: kalakand, barfi, ladoo, gulab jamun, ras malai and more. We also serve falooda, milkshakes and the crowd-favourite ice gola during warmer months.

Halal Certified
Every non-vegetarian item at IndiaWaale — chicken, mutton, and all kebabs — is sourced from halal-certified suppliers. We take this seriously and are fully transparent about our sourcing.
Made Fresh Daily
We don't use pre-made bases or reheated batches. Chutneys, doughs, marinades and gravies are prepared fresh every morning. If something sells out, it sells out — we won't compromise on quality.
Vegetarian-First Menu
Over 60% of our menu is vegetarian. We believe great Indian food doesn't require meat — our veg options are front and centre, not an afterthought.
Fair Pricing
We're a community restaurant. Thalis start at $12.99, chaat plates at $8.99, and chai at $2.99. We want families, students and workers to be able to eat well without breaking the bank.
Catering Across Toronto & GTA
IndiaWaale caters weddings, corporate lunches, birthday parties, Diwali celebrations, Eid gatherings and community events across North York, Scarborough, Markham, Richmond Hill and the broader GTA. We offer biryani trays (small, medium, large — feeding 5 to 50+ guests), samosa trays, chaat stations, tandoor platters, full thali sets and fresh Indian sweets.
All catering is made to order and requires advance notice. For large events, we recommend booking at least one week ahead. Custom menus are available — call us to discuss your event.
